This Student Union society lets you experience everything from laser quest to comedy nights, completely free when you’re an official member. The 20 Minute Society even gives you the chance to go on a mystery holiday, flying to places like Budapest and Italy. But only if you can arrive at the destination within 20 minutes!
Whether you want to play competitively, casually or just learn the basics the Chess society is open for all. They host weekly sessions which include lessons for beginners and opportunities for more experienced players to get involved.
Want to try something completely new and learn a new style of dance? The Irish Dance society has members with years of dancing experience as well as enthusiasts who want to start learning. If you join, you get a free society t-shirt! As well as their regular dance classes, they also meet for pizza, ice skating and more.
Do you talking about historic events? The History Society gives you the opportunity to meet other people with a passion for history. Not just limited to history students, it’s a friendly place for quizzes and activities.
If you love jazz music and the blues, look no further than this society. Jazz Orchestra was awarded the society of the year in 2019 and is also Newcastle University’s longest-running Big Band. Don’t hesitate to get involved as they accept any players who are looking to join.
Every year, the Coast to Coast society has a 130-mile charity bike ride, starting at Whitehaven and ending in Tynemouth to raise money. To help you prepare for the event, there are weekly classes at the sports centre to get you fit.
Do you enjoy baking delicious food? The baking society has weekly sessions, including afternoon teas and master baker challenges. You can join in no matter how experienced you are. If you like eating cake more than baking it, there are lots of opportunities to do that too.
If you love all things Pokémon, this society helps you “catch them all.” You can explore the city of Newcastle and play PokemonGo, collecting your favourite Pokémon and making friends. There are also quizzes and other activities you can get involved in.
Newcastle University Entrepreneurs is a society that organises a range of events with the goal is to bring people together who have an interest in entrepreneurship and business. Our events range from speaker events, skills and development workshops, as well as local networking opportunities for students.
From casual to competitive or console to PC, the Newcastle University Gaming Society invites all gamers to become a member. Their esports teams compete in lots of competitions including the National Student Esports and The NUEL. They have consoles you can play on and quizzes to take part in.
The Animal Rights Advocates society is a friendly and passionate group of activists, aiming to bring an end to animal suffering. Demonstrations, workshops, food stalls and connections with other local activist groups happen regularly to share the message of animal rights. If this is something you’re passionate about, this is the best society to join.
If you want to develop your creative writing, this society hosts regular workshops, writing activities and socials. They also organise trips to increase your creativity and inspire you. A book is made at the end of the year with all the members’ creative pieces.
The Disability and Neurodiversity society is a friendly community for students with disabilities, who are neurodiverse or who care for individuals who are. The society supports and represents students like this on a personal level, holding events to promote conversation about issues and educate the wider community.
Newcastle University Fashion Society is Newcastle’s answer to the always-changing fashion industry. NUFS allows its members to get involved in the world of fashion through modelling opportunities, photography, videography, blogging, content creation, weekly sewing lessons and socials.
It’s an ideal opportunity for members to meet other fashion enthusiasts and learn valuable new skills.
The Business Society offers members lots of opportunities to meet with other students who study a business degree or related courses. They host networking events which gives you the chance to meet with potential future employers and make new friends.
