With excellent teaching and world-class universities, it’s obvious why the UK is a popular destination for students wanting to study abroad.

Choosing what course to study at university is a big decision. However, the course you’re interested in may not be available for international students at your prospective university. This blog explores the courses you can study in the UK and which universities offer them.

Why can’t I choose any course to study?

Some universities have a separate prospectus for international students and limit you to what you can study. This can be because of a number of reasons and could influence your decision.

For example:

  • Some courses are limited for international students because they have particular accreditations and focus on UK-based career or sector, for example
  • They have highly competitive courses that have limited places for students
  • The university might be small and may not be able to guarantee accommodation for international students

Some universities send out a specific prospectus for international students that highlights the most popular programmes. They also include additional bespoke information that only applies to those looking to study abroad.

Where can I study whatever I want?

Universities like Newcastle allow international students to enrol onto all of their courses - many are even professionally accredited. From business management to biomedical science, you have the freedom to study what you want. An amazing 98% of our international graduates are employed in professional and managerial job roles.

You can find a university’s prospectus online or simply contact them via their social media or email. Make sure they clarify which courses you can study or you might be disappointed when it turns out it’s not available for international students.

What types of courses could be available?

With a long history of first-class education, universities in the UK provide high standards of teaching and qualifications that are world-renowned.

Within the UK, there is also a group of 24 leading universities known as the Russell Group. These universities are often at the forefront of education and create compelling and relevant curriculums. Because STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) industries are so important to the UK economy, Russell Group universities work hard to create fantastic and high-quality courses to ensure graduates have the skills they need to begin their careers.
