The British Council projects that by 2020, two billion people in the world will be studying English. Not only is English the international language of the world but it’s also important for friendships, the curriculum at university and your future career. 

If you want to get into a high ranking university, studying English as early as possible is one of the things that can help you succeed. Here’s why English is important for students.

It’s the international language of the world

English is the most commonly spoken language in the world. Around 1.5 billion people speak English, which is one in four of us. Knowing it gives you a big advantage as you’ll be able to communicate with lots of different people all over the globe.

If you study here in the UK, you’ll already have a good understanding of the English language. It gives you the opportunity to practise daily with native speakers.

Enhances your CV

When writing your CV, you’ll be able to include that you speak English. Knowing more than one language is very impressive to potential employers because it shows your communication skills. It also gives you a good advantage over other candidates for certain job roles as they might not be bilingual like you.

English is also the language of the internet. More than half of the world’s most visited websites are displayed in the English language. Knowing how to read English will allow you access to lots of helpful information for your studies and assignments.

Your course and curriculum will be in English but it’s also the business language of the world. It has become a requirement for students looking to enter a global workforce.

Large corporations like Samsung and Nokia have even made English their official corporate language. So knowing it well will increase your chances of employability all over the world.
